Patient Experience (PX) Week brought smiles, laughter and heartfelt memories across our organization.

Throughout the week, team members transformed everyday moments into meaningful experiences strengthening connections with patients, families and one another.

From simple gestures to larger celebrations, PX Week created space to pause, engage and connect. Craft, lemonade, tea and fun carts delivered simple moments of joy, while princess visits, superhero window washers and a marching band brought energy and delight. Visits from Caring Critters Animal Assisted Therapy and Books Alive! added comfort, imagination and creativity. At the same time, the HEART Learning, Education and Action Series reinforced practical ways to bring connection into every interaction.

Together, these moments reflected what matters most: bringing our HEART values to life in every encounter.

“This week was so special because of the countless opportunities it created for connection,” said Elisa Mozley, Director of Friends and Family and Patient Experience. “It reminded us that patient experience isn’t a program, it’s a promise, and it was powerful to see that promise come to life again and again in the moments we shared with patients, families and one another. My hope is that we carry this energy forward every day, in continuing to transform ordinary moments into extraordinary memories for those we serve.”

PX Week’s success is because of you. Thank you to every team member who participated, to those who organized campuswide events and to leaders who encouraged engagement across their teams. We also extend our gratitude to the Patient Experience team for bringing this vision to life across our organization.

A recent ABC News story highlights the powerful connection between three young patients at Texas Children’s whose heart transplant journeys brought them together in an extraordinary way.

While waiting for life-saving transplants, the boys formed a close friendship, supporting one another through uncertainty, hope and healing. Within days of each other, each received the gift of a new heart, turning their shared experience into a lasting bond.

Their care was guided by Dr. Joseph Spinner and Dr. Iki Adachi, whose expertise and commitment helped make these life-saving transplants possible.

Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) team is making it easier to pause, check in and care for your mental health when it matters most.

A mental health check-in is a simple way to understand how you are doing and get support early. Taking that step helps you stay grounded for yourself and the people who depend on you every day.

There are several ways to complete a mental health check-in:

  • Visit the Employee Medical Clinic for a confidential evaluation for symptoms of depression or anxiety and guidance on next steps. Call (832) 824-2424 to schedule an appointment. New patients can schedule a virtual or in-person visit by calling, and established patients can book through MyChart or call the same number.

  • Use EAP Plus by Headspace, a free EAP mental health platform offering therapy, coaching and on-demand tools for stress, sleep and focus. General staff can click here to enroll. Medical staff can click here to enroll.

  • Speak with an internal EAP counselor for confidential support and help finding the right care and resources. Call (832) 824-3327 to schedule an appointment.

  • Talk with your primary care physician about mental health screening and ongoing support options.
