Pawsitive Play 10th Anniversary

The Pawsitive Play Program is celebrating a fur-midable milestone: 10 years of bringing comfort, courage and laughter to patients and families.

Since 2016, facility dog teams have made more than 5,000 patient interactions across Texas Children’s, helping patients cope with procedures, new diagnoses and hospital stays. Today, seven facility dog teams continue to make their rounds across our Houston and Woodlands campuses, working alongside Certified Child Life Specialists to provide therapeutic interventions and emotional support.

As Shelby Strauser, Animal Assisted Therapy Coordinator and Certified Child Life Specialist for the Pawsitive Play Program, shared, “I’ve seen firsthand how our facility dogs can change the trajectory of a patient’s hospitalization by bringing comfort, motivation, laughter and a sense of normalcy.”

A round of a-paws to Pinto, Pluto, Cohen, Crosby, Lawton and Mel for all they do to brighten our patients’ days!
