Every Step Counts: Texas Children’s Pediatrics Westwood Participates in Walking Challenge

Small steps across hallways, neighborhoods and living rooms became a reminder of what can happen when a team moves together with purpose.

The Texas Children’s Pediatrics (TCP) Westwood team joined Community Health Network and Texas Children’s Specialty Care teams in a walking challenge designed to increase physical activity, support mental wellbeing and strengthen team engagement. Using a shared tracking app, participants encouraged one another through friendly competition, real-time progress updates and daily motivation.

By the end of the competition, the TCP Westwood team collectively logged 3,066.147 miles. The challenge concluded with a salad potluck celebrating the team’s accomplishments and commitment to wellness. Participants received certificates of appreciation and small tokens of recognition, while the top walkers earned medals, gift bags and prizes.

Participants said they hope the challenge inspires other teams across our organization to create similar opportunities centered on wellness, encouragement and connection.

“I am so excited about the dedication of the participants,” Texas Children’s Pediatrics Westwood Administrative Assistant Valenta Johnson shared. “It was amazing to log into the app and see the progress of each staff member from day to day as well as hear their stories. Some staff went the additional step and purchased treadmills for home. Others used this challenge to get their family more excited to exercise. The number of miles logged in less than a month was amazing.”
