Bravo Award Winners

BRAVO Awards are a quarterly recognition given out by the Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology (TXCH) Center to recognize nursing and professional staff critical in helping to care for our patients and families.

TXCH is fortunate to recognize a large number of people who represent diverse aspects of our patient care team. The winners this quarter include:

Juanita Cano, MA, Medical Center Campus (not pictured). Juanita serves in the Long-Term Survivor Clinic, where she ensures patients feel comfortable and supported throughout their visits. She coordinates research appointments and works closely with social workers and medical staff to keep clinic days running smoothly.

Mary Day, RD, Medical Center Campus. Mary is the inpatient clinical dietitian for hematology and oncology patients, playing a vital role in supporting their care. She works closely with medical and nursing teams to ensure each patient receives adequate nutrition tailored to their preferences and comfort. Her willingness to educate others and her consistently positive approach strengthen both the care team and the patient experience.

Lori Douglas, RN, Medical Center Campus. A two-time BRAVO Award recipient, Lori serves as nurse coordinator for the Long-Term Survivor Clinic. She brings a patient-first mindset to care coordination, considering the financial and social needs of long-term survivors, many of whom are now adults. Her professionalism and ability to guide her team are essential to the clinic’s success.

Robert Holland, RN, Medical Center Campus. Robert recently cared for a patient receiving end-of-life support, forming a meaningful bond with both the patient and family. As one of the patient’s core nurses, he adapted to a complex clinical situation with compassion, advocating for the patient’s needs and ensuring clear communication between care teams. He also created moments of joy and comfort that provided lasting emotional support for the family.

Jadai’ Sells, RN, Medical Center Campus. Jadai’ is an inpatient care coordinator for bone marrow transplant and oncology patients, where she manages complex discharge planning. Her strong clinical judgment and commitment to patient-and family-centered care help improve outcomes. Her reliability and empathy reflect the highest values of our organization.

Miranda Short, RN, Medical Center Campus. Miranda serves as an inpatient care coordinator for hematology and oncology patients and has made a significant impact on patient flow. Her proactive approach and ability to anticipate patient needs help prevent delays, while her collaboration with multidisciplinary teams ensures seamless, coordinated care.

Jessica Smith, RN, The Woodlands Campus. Jessica is the nurse manager for cancer and hematology in The Woodlands, where she demonstrates steady leadership. She ensures her team is supported and prepared to deliver high-quality care, even during unpredictable or high-stress situations, and plays a key role in maintaining continuity and stability across the practice.
