Greg Alpers

Operations Coordinator
Texas Children’s Hospital Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
2019 Unsung Hero

For the past seven years, Greg Alpers has served as Critical Care Operations Coordinator for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and has been regarded as one of the most creative, collaborative and dependable members of the unit’s team.

Greg works with numerous outside vendors and supporting departments, including Facilities, Biomed and Materials Management. In addition to managing equipment and supply and utility room needs, he’s also a handyman on the unit, building solutions from scratch to improve organization and workflow for his teammates.

Greg always does everything he can to make sure CICU and CPCU employees and staff have everything they need to deliver safe and efficient care, and he’ll soon be taking that creativity and collaborative spirit with him as he transitions to a similar position in Texas Children’s Milk Bank.

“Greg is one of the most creative people I know,” said CICU Patient Care Manager Jessica Kelley, noting a bedside cart he designed and a supply, nutrition and equipment storage room he reorganized to improve workflow. “He truly knows exactly what every person on our unit needs to be successful in their job.”

And, to top it off, he does it all with a smile. While being one of the most valuable members of the CICU team, Greg also is jovial and kind, cracking jokes and flashing people a smile whenever he can.
