In a recent podcast conversation, Dr. Huda Zoghbi reflected on the remarkable journey of the Duncan Neurological Research Institute as it celebrates its 15th anniversary.

The Duncan NRI was built on a bold vision: bring together experts from different disciplines to tackle some of the most complex neurological diseases affecting children and families. That culture of collaboration has fueled extraordinary progress over the past 15 years.

Today, the institute has identified more than 100 disease-causing genes, expanded its focus to include adult-onset neurodegenerative diseases and is advancing potential treatments for autism, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions.

During the conversation, Dr. Zoghbi discussed how institutional partnership, intellectual generosity, scientific risk-taking, philanthropic support and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence are helping researchers continue solving the unsolvable and bringing hope to patients and families around the world.

Behind every patient story, every family supported and every milestone reached are team members whose dedication has helped shape Texas Children’s for years.

To celebrate that commitment, we hosted Service Milestone events across Houston and Austin, honoring more than 2,600 team members who together represent over 37,000 years of dedication to our patients, families and mission. Honorees received a personalized certificate and commemorative acrylic milestone piece in recognition of their extraordinary contributions.

Congratulations to every honoree. Your service has strengthened our culture, advanced our mission and made a lasting impact on the communities we serve. We are profoundly grateful for the compassion, expertise and commitment you bring to work every day.

Atlantic hurricane season officially begins June 1 and runs through November 30. While the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting a below-normal season overall, experts stress that it only takes one storm to significantly impact our communities. NOAA is predicting 8 to 14 named storms this year, with 3 to 6 expected to become hurricanes and 1 to 3 reaching major hurricane strength with winds of 111 mph or higher.

Although the forecast calls for fewer storms than average, preparedness remains just as important. Weather conditions can change quickly, and even a single storm can disrupt operations, impact travel and threaten life and property. NOAA officials encourage everyone to review emergency plans, build emergency supply kits and stay informed throughout the season.

Take time now to prepare yourself, your family and your household before a storm is on the horizon.

Visit the Hurricane Preparedness page on the Organizational Resilience SharePoint for emergency planning resources, preparedness information and links to trusted external resources. Together, we can ensure we are ready for whatever this hurricane season may bring.

Identity theft is on the rise globally, with scammers targeting service desks by impersonating users to steal their credentials and gain access to their accounts.

To stop these attacks from reaching our team members, our IS Services team launched CLEAR, a faster, more secure way to confirm it’s really you. CLEAR registration is required to verify your identity for sensitive Service Desk support, including password resets, multi-factor authentication registration and access requests.

What Happens If You Don’t Register

  • The Service Desk can’t confirm your identity, so your request cannot be immediately completed

  • Your password reset, multi-factor authentication registration or access request is delayed until an alternate verification process is complete

Register for CLEAR

  • New users: upload a government-issued ID and snap a selfie

  • Returning users: use your existing CLEAR profile and verify with a selfie

  • Registration deadline: June 19, 2026
