Cheers and applause filled the room as oversized red scissors cut through a red ribbon to mark a significant milestone in maternity care at Texas Children’s.
Texas Children’s hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its Pavilion for Women and Specialty Care clinic in Lakeway. The new clinic provides maternal-fetal medicine services for families across Austin and the Greater Central Texas region.
With the addition of the Lakeway location, specialized care is now closer to home for families experiencing high-risk pregnancies while maintaining easy access to the full Texas Children’s system when advanced treatment is needed.
“There is a growing need for specialized maternal care in Central Texas,” said Dr. Melanie Belt, chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Texas Children’s Austin Campus. “By opening this clinic in Lakeway, we are expanding our reach and ensuring that more families have timely access to expert maternal-fetal medicine services, while seamlessly connecting them to our broader system of care when advanced interventions are required.”
The clinic is equipped with advanced medical equipment, including ultrasound technology and fetal monitoring devices that support comprehensive evaluations and ongoing care for complicated pregnancies. The space was designed to feel welcoming and reassuring so families can receive answers, monitoring and guidance close to their communities.
The new clinic also strengthens collaboration with referring physicians and community providers across Lakeway and the Greater Austin area to provide coordinated specialty care throughout pregnancy.
“Expanding access to specialized care is central to our mission of serving families where they live,” said Dr. Jeffrey Shilt, president of Texas Children’s in Austin. “The opening of our maternal-fetal medicine clinic in Lakeway reflects our commitment to strengthening care across Central Texas by bringing advanced maternal expertise closer to home, while ensuring seamless access to the full capabilities of Texas Children’s when complex care is needed.”
The Lakeway site is the Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women’s second maternal-fetal medicine clinic in Austin. The first maternal-fetal medicine clinic is located at Texas Children’s Austin Campus. Together, the clinics strengthen a growing network of care designed to support families throughout pregnancy.
This celebratory milestone would not be possible without the dedication and support of our maternal-fetal medicine specialists, nurses, sonographers, care coordinators and specialty care teams whose expertise and compassion make progress possible every day at Texas Children’s.
