After 36 years in operation, McDonald’s will close its restaurant in the Abercrombie building on Dec. 15, 2023.
“We thank McDonald’s for their long-standing partnership over the years, as well as their ongoing support and generous donations to our organization,” said Trent Johnson, vice president. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during this transition. We’re doing everything we can to minimize disruption.”
Texas Children’s collaborated with McDonald’s over the years to enhance food offerings and improve the experience. Dr. Sanjiv “Sonny” Harpavat led the charge to ensure nutritional information was visible, as well as added healthier alternatives, including milk and apple slices on the menu, which the chain adopted nationally.
The Food and Nutrition Services team is working quickly with another national restaurant to take over the space in Abercrombie. The team will share details once finalized, but the new restaurant will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner with a variety of food options. There will be a lot of work to transition to a new restaurant and the goal is to open in 2024.
To help ease the transition, various interim food options will be available, starting Friday, Dec. 15. There will be signage at various locations regarding these changes.
- Abercrombie alcove (near train display):
- Just Baked vending machine offering hot sandwiches, pastries, hamburgers, available 24/7.
- Grab and go options, including breakfast items, sandwiches (Antone’s) and salads, available from 6 – 10 a.m., 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. – 1 a.m.
- Pavilion for Women Fresh Bistro Café hot food options as well as grab and go meals available until 3 a.m., seven days a week.
