Childhood Injury Prevention Team Receives $25,000 to Strengthen Child Passenger Safety Efforts

Our care reaches even further beyond the bedside thanks to Hyundai Hope, the philanthropic arm of Hyundai Motor America, who donated $25,000 to support our Childhood Injury Prevention team in their efforts of increasing child passenger safety across Houston. The organization’s monetary generosity means more families will gain access to free car seat inspections, installations, education and replacement seats in communities that need them most.

For many Houston parents, a correctly installed car seat can be the difference between fear and peace of mind. National data shows the right safety seat can reduce fatal injury by up to 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. Yet, too many families either don’t have access to a proper seat or simply aren’t sure how to use one. With Hyundai Hope’s support, we can ensure more parents have the equipment, knowledge and confidence to keep their children safe on the road.

At a recent community event at Aldine Fire & Rescue, our certified child passenger safety technicians successfully worked side-by-side with Hyundai leaders to meet families, check seats, review recalls and make sure every child left safer than they arrived. It’s this kind of hands-on, collaborative work that makes us proud to be a hospital that prioritizes family-centered care.

“Hyundai’s support allows us to reach even more families who rely on us,” said Kristen Beckworth, manager of the Center for Childhood Injury Prevention. “We can host more car seat check events, provide more one-on-one education and get high-quality seats into the hands of parents who otherwise couldn’t afford them.”

As the lead for Safe Kids Greater Houston, our center already operates more than 20 inspection stations and trains among nearly 50 technicians each year. Now, thanks to Hyundai Hope, we can scale that impact to help more families across Houston.
