ATXcellence Awards

Congratulations to our ATXcellence Awards winners in Austin! Three winners were chosen for employee, provider and partner awards. Below are excerpts from each winner’s nomination form. 

Dr. Daxa Patel — Neurosurgery

Dr. Patel exemplifies patient-centered excellence through unwavering compassion, professionalism and dedication to families and colleagues. She consistently ensures families feel informed and supported by thoughtfully explaining procedures and care decisions. 

During demanding trauma cases, she remained present until each patient was safely settled in the PICU, demonstrating extraordinary commitment. When complications arose off-call, Dr. Patel stayed late to ensure continuity of care and personally supported the family. Her leadership, teamwork and commitment to education reflect the highest standards of humility, accountability, respect, trust and excellence. 

Stephanie McLain — Social Worker

Stephanie consistently embodies Texas Children’s values through compassionate, patient-and family-centered care and a deep commitment to team well-being. For instance, during a difficult situation she provided calm and immediate bereavement support to a grieving mother by offering presence, validation, and professionalism in a moment of profound loss. 

Beyond patient care, Stephanie strengthens team culture through her active role on the morale committee. On this committee, she organizes engagement activities and fosters open communication. Her humility, respect, accountability and excellence create meaningful impact for families and colleagues alike. 

Jaime Quezada — Food and Nutrition Department

Jaime is a great leader across our department. He is always willing to learn and pass information to his co-workers. His commitment to food safety and high- quality service has a direct impact on patient experience. He is responsible for creating and implementing a system of checks and balances to ensure quality of food is prepared. He understands that meals are more than just food, they are an essential part of healing and comfort for patients and staff.
