Five Nursing Education/Professional Conference Scholarships – One Deadline to Apply!

David and Polly Roth Nursing Education Scholarship (BSN for specific types of roles)

  • Texas Children’s Dr. Roth and his wife Polly drew inspiration for establishing this scholarship from their desire to “touch individuals on a personal level while allowing them to improve their lives and careers.”  This scholarship is unique because applicants must be employed in specific types of roles to be eligible.

  • Recipients of this scholarship will receive financial assistance in the form of tuition assistance towards attaining a professional nursing degree (BSN for non-RNs).

Flo McGee Nursing Education Scholarship (MSN for RNs)/Professional Conference Scholarship

  •  The Flo McGee Nursing Scholarship fund was re-established in 2007 by Florence McGee, a longstanding volunteer, philanthropist and fundraiser due to her appreciation for nurses.
  • Recipients of this scholarship will receive financial assistance in the form of tuition assistance towards attaining an advanced professional nursing degree (MSN for RNs) or financial assistance towards attendance at a professional nursing conference (such as the Magnet conference).

Len Slusser Nursing Education Scholarship (DNP or PhD for RNs)/Professional Conference Scholarship

  • The Len Slusser Nursing Scholarship fund was established in 2020. Both scholarships are named in honor of Len Slusser, a long-time volunteer at Texas Children’s Hospital. Len has served as a Patient Pal and also with the Caring Critters team.  Her daughter was a cardiology patient as a child.

  • Recipients of this scholarship will receive financial assistance in the form of tuition assistance towards attaining an advanced professional nursing degree (DNP or PhD) or financial assistance towards attendance at a professional nursing conference.

Molly Mae LeBlanc Nursing Education Scholarship (MSN for RNs or BSN for PCAs)/ Professional Conference Scholarship

  • Both scholarships are named in memory of Molly Mae LeBlanc, daughter of former Texas Children’s employees Jill and Andy LeBlanc, who passed away at Texas Children’s on May 6, 2017. Prior to birth, Molly was diagnosed with Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease (ARPKD). She battled her kidney and liver disease valiantly and spent much time being cared for at Texas Children’s by many different services and members of our healthcare team.

  • The purpose of these scholarships is to perpetuate Molly Mae’s memory and recognize nursing staff members (RNs, PCAs) for going above and beyond their required job duties to enhance the quality of life for Texas Children’s patients and their families. Selected scholarship recipients will receive financial assistance in the form of tuition assistance towards attaining a professional nursing degree (MSN for RNs, or BSN for PCAs) or financial assistance towards attendance at a professional nursing conference (RNs).

Lois J. Moore Professional Conference Scholarship

  • The Dr. Lois J. Moore nursing scholarship was established in 2024.  Lois J. Moore is a well-known trailblazer for the nursing profession.  She became president and CEO of Harris Health in 1989, making her the first African American and first woman to lead a healthcare system in the Texas Medical Center.

  • This scholarship was established to honor Dr. Moore and invest in nursing professional development in the area of behavioral health and psychiatric nursing.  Selected scholarship recipients will receive compensation towards attending a professional nursing conference with emphasis on behavioral and/or psychiatric nursing.
