Texas Children’s North Austin Campus Drs. Danielle Grant and Natalie Tarrant contributed to an Austin American-Statesman story to remind parents to get their kids’ well checks before heading back to school.

With many school district and private schools starting classes soon, now is the time to stop by your local family doctor or pediatrician to get children’s annual wellness exam done, as well as any sports physicals and take care of missing vaccinations.

“Having a pediatric home is really important,” said Dr. Danielle Grant, an Austin pediatrician with Texas Children’s Hospital. If kids are afraid to get their shots or to go to the doctor, “we deal with those fears on a regular basis.” 

Skipping vaccines “leaves a child susceptible to illnesses that can be quite severe and lead to hospitalization and death,” said Dr. Natalie Tarrant, an Austin pediatrician with Texas Children’s Hospital. “That’s our goal: To make them healthy with no long-term complications.”
