In memoriam: Rachel Shupe

It is with a heavy heart that I share some very sad news. Last night, we lost a dear friend and valued colleague, Rachel M. Shupe.

Our Vice President of Finance, a loving wife to her husband, Jacob, and devoted mother to her children Connor and Caitlyn, Rachel was a beautiful and kind soul, and she was taken from us far too soon.

Rachel started at Texas Children’s in 2009, as our Controller and Director of Financial Services. Her winning attitude and tremendous work ethic were evident to all of us as she moved quickly up the ranks. Over the past eight years, Rachel added transparency and structure, improved policies and processes, but most importantly she built an amazing team. Rachel’s legacy is evident in the people she surrounded herself with and the strong relationships she developed. She loved her own family deeply, and rightfully, they always came first. But she also loved her Texas Children’s family and placed great importance on the friendships she formed here. She will be profoundly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

I personally will always remember Rachel for her quiet and compassionate nature, her gentle humor and her humble heart. So many of us here today have been on the receiving end of her wisdom, support and kindness. Undoubtedly, we will miss Rachel, but I know that her legacy lives on in the warm memories and thoughtful actions of all those whose lives she touched in so many remarkable ways.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Jacob, Connor, Caitlyn and Rachel’s entire family.
