Email heading warns of hazards of opening links or attachments from unknown senders

To remind employees of the security hazards of opening email links and attachments from unknown sources, Information Services added the warning below to the top of all incoming email messages:

CAUTION: This email originated outside of the Texas Children’s email environment. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe.

The security message appears on any email that does not originate from an address within Texas Children’s organization, i.e. username@texaschildrens.org or username@TCHP.US. The caution is part of Texas Children’s response to the potential threat posed by recent global ransomware cyberattacks.

Employees account for a significant portion of data breaches in an organization, primarily through neglect or ignorance. That means employee behavior influences our security profile far more than any hardware, software or other tools we can implement.
