Please join us in recognizing these Texas Children’s nurses who make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families every day. The comments included below are excerpts from each winner’s nomination.

Elaine Boyd (The Woodlands Acute Care 5)
I would like to say thank you to Elaine. She made us feel right at home. My son had three very bad days and he cried and cried. Elaine was there to make sure he was comfortable and she was also trying her best to help him cope with the pain. She was absolutely the best nurse we have ever encountered. Her bubbly and awesome attitude was everything. I hope to meet more people like her!

Johanna Howell (PFW Women’s Specialty Unit)
Johanna was my nurse for my scheduled C-section and I could not be more grateful for her. From the moment I entered the unit, she made me feel at ease with her beautiful smile and laughter. She explained everything she was doing and what to expect before, during and after the procedure. My husband also loved Johanna because she included him in the entire process. He loved that she encouraged him to do skin-to-skin – and told me it was an experience he will never forget. I still use her breastfeeding advice today, and I believe it is why breastfeeding my son has been a success.

Kathleen Ashby (Legacy Pediatric Intensive Care Unit 9)
Kathleen made us feel at ease with everything. She took her time explaining everything that she was doing and what was going to happen. She knew my son hated needles and she was so wonderful with him. He was getting his blood drawn every four hours and got stuck several times. Kathleen asked the staff if they could add another line in his other arm while he was under for his procedure. When we were being released, she found out that my son’s prescription was $300. She took it upon herself to help us out and look for a coupon. She was also able to get the prescription switched to my local pharmacy, which saved us more money. I can’t say thank you enough to her for the care she gave my son.
