2019 Unsung Hero

Tammy Loyd comes to work each day with a winning attitude and a smile, two things that go a long way when you are dealing with patients who just got out of surgery. As a nurse in Perioperative Services at Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus, Tammy is responsible for monitoring patients after surgery and going over postoperative care instructions with their family members.

In all aspects of her job, Tammy is very patient. She takes her time with every family member and answers all of their questions, sometimes demonstrating what needs to be done so that a child can be discharged and continue healing at home.

Tammy supports her coworkers by filling in when they can’t and by finding solutions to workflow issues. Recently, she noticed the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) schedule had gaps during lunch and offered to fill them herself until a new schedule could be devised.

In addition to her regular job duties, Tammy is part of the Shared Governance Staff Operations team, from which she gleans valuable information that she brings back to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at West Campus.

“Tammy comes to work every day with a positive attitude and a smile on her face,” said Perioperative Services Manager Sadaf Abbas. “She has a knack for innovation and problem solving, and is a builder of positive relationships. We are glad to have her on our team.”
