Dr. Hotez named on 100 Most Influential People in global health list

Congratulations to Dr. Peter Hotez, co-director of Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development and professor and dean of Baylor College of Medicine’s National School of Tropical Medicine, on making this year’s TIME100 Health list.

“In the wake of the pandemic, a new era emerges – marked by fresh discoveries, novel treatments and global victories over disease,” reads the TIME100 Health collection. Named a “science warrior” and catalyst for change, Dr. Hotez is best known for his role in developing two COVID-19 vaccines that were administered more than 100 million times in India and Indonesia, which earned him and Dr. Maria Elena Bottazzi a 2022 Nobel Peace Prize nomination.

Dr. Hotez has remained a familiar fixture on TV screens since the pandemic, serving as an intelligent and respected voice on emerging viruses and the rising tide of antiscience.

“If you are truly committed to saving lives, you have to combat this antiscience aggression,” said Dr. Hotez in his profile. “I can make the greatest vaccines in the world, but if no one takes them, it’s self-defeating.”
