Texas Children’s Simulation Center
2019 Unsung Hero

As the Education Specialist for the Texas Children’s Simulation Center, Melissa Cashin is always finding new ways to integrate simulation into medical education.

Known by her team as the simulation guru, Melissa manages interdisciplinary learning initiatives across Texas Children’s. She works closely with partners across the organization to design and conduct simulations that test new processes or environments with the ultimate goal of improving clinical performance.

As she plans these events, Melissa goes to great lengths to involve key stakeholders in the planning process, to meet the goals and mission of the organization, and to, most of all, do the right thing for our patients.

“Melissa is the center of the simulation center,” said Royanne Lichliter, assistant director of the Hospital Quality Education and Simulation Team. “She is what keeps us true to always doing the right thing.”

Melissa has been with Texas Children’s for more than 20 years in various roles. She has been with the Simulation Center since 2009 when it opened. Her expertise and experience help guide others so that they are using simulation best practices, doing the best thing for the learners and ultimately for patient safety.
