John Freeman

Field Relations Coordinator
Texas Children’s Health Plan
2019 Unsung Hero

In his role as a Field Relations Coordinator for Texas Children’s Health Plan, John Freeman acts as a liaison between the Health Plan and its members seeking care at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands Emergency Center. When a Health Plan member shows up at the Emergency Center, John is there to introduce himself and to help that member and their family receive the services they need.

John was promoted to the new role after working as a Patient Care Technician to a Case Management Assistant. In that role, John was extremely successful in building relationships with staff in departments the Health Plan collaborates with to provide services to its members. He also helped develop processes to make his team’s authorization workflows more efficient.

“John’s ability to build positive working relationships and work through challenging tasks have led to his promotion to Field Relations Coordinator,” said Tawana Cummings, who manages the Case & Disease Management section of the Field Relations Program for the Health Plan. “In his new role, he has again utilized his abilities to develop relationships with the staff in The Woodlands to meet the needs of our members.”

Overall, John is very passionate about his job, Cumming said. He is a hard worker and exemplifies Texas Children’s values through his interactions with staff and Health Plan members.
