Amber Rosta

Quality Assurance Coordinator
Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands Pathology
2019 Unsung Hero

In her role as Quality Assurance Coordinator for the Department of Pathology at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands, Amber Rosta is dedicated to strengthening a culture of continuous improvement so that patients and families continue to receive the best possible care.

Amber is always seeking feedback from the team and looking to improve workflows. Recently, she helped reduce the number of test cancelations for the Coagulation and Allergy/Immunology sections of the lab, improve the accuracy of Methotrexate (a type of chemotherapy) testing, and better communication between clinics that contact the lab most frequently.

One of Amber’s biggest achievements since joining The Woodlands Pathology team when it was formed a few years ago is successfully leading the team through its two regulatory College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspections. CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program accredits the entire spectrum of laboratory test disciplines with the most scientifically rigorous customized checklist requirements.

Amber also is willing to perform a variety of duties that fall outside of her job description, including serving as a temporary point-of-care coordinator when the person in that role was on leave. She also helps train new and existing staff, and is a safety coach and a wellness ambassador.

“Amber has an unwavering commitment to quality laboratory operations,” said Tyler Giess, assistant director of Pathology in The Woodlands. “Her behind-the-scenes efforts truly make a difference.”
