West Campus Staff RN cultivates connection through small acts of kindness

As we honor our 70th anniversary with Patient Experience Week, we’re excited to celebrate team members whose thoughtfulness and sincerity make a difference in the lives of our patients and families. Texas Children’s is privileged to celebrate Caught You Caring honoree, Nina Japheth Caballero.

Nina, Staff RN at West Campus UC, leads with her heart. A mom recently praised Nina for making personal connections with families by responding to children’s needs and really seeing them as the unique patients they are.

“Last week, when my daughter and I visited the (Urgent Care), Nina went above and beyond to make our experience comfortable. She was incredibly kind, offering my daughter juice and crayons, and she communicated with her in a way that eased her anxiety. My daughter was so appreciative that she gave Nina the coloring page she worked on during our visit. Today, when I took my son to the (Urgent Care), Nina once again showed exceptional kindness, even though we weren’t her patients. As we were leaving, she remembered us from last week and proudly showed me the coloring picture my daughter had given her. It meant so much that she remembered my daughter’s name and still cherished the drawing. Nurses like Nina who form genuine connections with their patients deserve recognition, and I’d like to nominate her for a Daisy Award.”
