Security Services taking extra steps, providing support to ensure team member safety

From foot and vehicular patrols to escorts and visitor management, Texas Children’s Security Services remains ready around the clock to assist our One Amazing Team and support a safe and secure environment across all campus locations.

Law enforcement data shows that crime rates often increase in the summer months, and recent events both locally and nationally have also heightened concerns for many.

In response, Security Services is being proactive and taking extra steps to protect our team members and keep our facilities safe and secure. These measures include:

  • Establishing community patrols in the Houston and Austin areas that round to Texas Children’s Pediatrics, Urgent Care and Specialty Care locations, as well as The Centers for Children and Women
  • Upgrading uniforms to include body armor, body cameras and tasers
  • Decreasing facility entry points
  • Providing additional training in the Commissioned Officer and Behavioral Health Officer programs, and a 90-day field training program of all officers
What to do if you need help

If you see someone or something that appears out of place, notify Security Services immediately by calling 832-824-5400. Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Team members can also contact Security Services to:

  • Request an officer escort to and from lots and garages. Escorts are available at any time.
  • Request assistance from an officer if you are feeling threatened by an encounter with an aggressive individual. Individuals displaying aggressive behavior may be placed on a contract that outlines specific requirements for being on Texas Children’s property.
How to support safety and security at your campus location

Each of us can play a role in helping ensure a safe and secure environment for our team:

  • Look for unusual behaviors and notify Security Services.
  • Request to see badges providing proof of authorization for individuals to be in the area.
  • Do not prop open doors or allow others to tailgate as you pass through a secured door or badged entry point.
