A poster and oral abstract from the OR Skin Champion Team at Texas Children’s Hospital received first place at the recent Clinical Symposium on Advances in Skin and Wound Care in New Orleans.
Registered nurses Suzy Bailin and Connie Tasker presented on decreasing OR-related pressure ulcers and prevention practices for hospital-acquired pressure ulcers. The abstract was one of only five selected to be presented orally.
The OR Skin Champion Team was formed in December 2013. There have been no reportable (stages 3 and 4) hospital-acquired pressure ulcers in the OR since September of last year. The OR Skin Champion Team consists of nursing staff from high-risk units, such as the OR, ICUs and cardiac units.
