Noisy work on Pediatric Tower E expected to last several weeks, noise simulation set for September 23

W.S. Bellows, Texas Children’s contractor on the Pediatric Tower E project, is advising employees of upcoming noisy work in the building associated with removal of concrete at levels 1 and B1 in the South Tower. This work is anticipated to start Friday, September 23 and continue through Friday, October 14.

The noisy work is planned to occur at night from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., however, Texas Children’s has requested that the contractor conduct a simulation during the day on September 23 to demonstrate the extent and intensity of the noise.

Texas Children’s plans to have personnel stationed in all areas of the Pediatric Tower E, Pavilion for Women, West Tower and in other buildings during the simulation, to understand how loud and how far the noise travels. Technicians with noise monitoring equipment will be stationed in certain areas of the facility to measure and record noise and vibration levels.

This activity, by far, will be the loudest and most disruptive noise that staff will experience on this project. We want everyone to be aware of this beforehand and to prepare your staff and patients accordingly. We will be engaging our Patient and Family Services team to assist with communicating this to our patients and families. We also may need assistance from leaders in specific areas (for example, NICU and Women’s Services) with providing ear protection to their patient populations if the impact is determined to be so significant. A meeting notification will be sent to all leaders on the exact date and time we intend to conduct the noise simulation.
