Are you ready to lace up and support a life-saving cause? Then don’t forget to register and join Texas Children’s Bone Marrow Transplant team for the first annual Lace Up 4 Life walk/run.
The event will be held on Saturday, September 10, at Sugar Land Town Square at 2711 Town Center Boulevard. The 5K kicks off at 7:30 a.m., 1K at 7:40 a.m. and Tot Trot at 8:15 a.m. followed by an exciting post-race celebration with refreshments and entertainment.
Lace Up 4 Life supports the Gulf Coast Marrow Donor Program whose mission is to educate and register donors for the Be The Match® Registry, to promote awareness of the life-saving need for marrow or peripheral blood stem cell donations from adult donors to patients awaiting transplant, and to raise funds for donor testing, typing and recruitment in the Gulf Coast region.
Each year, more than 12,000 patients are diagnosed with life-threatening blood cancers, like leukemia and lymphoma, or other diseases for which a marrow transplant from an unrelated donor may be their best or only hope for a cure. Seventy percent of all patients who need a transplant are unable to find one within their family, which makes the need for more registered bone marrow donors so important.
“Without the Be the Match® registry, hundreds of patients with leukemia and other diseases at Texas Children’s would have been unable to receive life-saving bone marrow transplantation,” said Dr. Robert Krance, chief of the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic at Texas Children’s.

The online registration deadline is Friday, September 9. Walk-up registration on the day of the event is open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m.
